INFLUENZA CAUSED DEATH OF PVT BRADY WEST
Private Brady West of Dougherty fell victim to the prevailing epidemic of Spanish influenza at Camp Dix, NJ, on Tuesday of last week. The body was brought to Dougherty and buried Sunday, the Masons, of which order he bacame a member shortly before entering camp, conducting the service. A number of Masons from Davis attended the funeral.
The deceased was born near Dallas, Tex, Dec 3, 1887. He was the son of Mr & Mrs J W West of Dougherty, and left for Camp Cody, NM, with the contingent of June 26th. He was a member of Co E 133rd Infantry. His death while in the service of this country immortalizes his name.
Pvt Brady West was a good soldier, said his comrades and was ever known as a dutiful and obedient boy at home. He is survived, besides his father and mother, by three brothers, Charley, Oliver and Thomas B, each older than himself, and by six sisters, Misses Ethel and Birdie West of Dougherty, Mrs Mollie Green of Guthrie, Mrs Josephine Williams of Nashville, Texx, Mrs Ed Smith of Lindsay, and Mrs Belle Willoughby of Sulphur, all of whom were present at the funeral.
