Nellie Lucas Van Velsan, youngest daughter of Charles and Ellen West was born April 1, 1892, near Afton, Iowa and passed away March 4, 1974 at the Johnson Nursing Home in Murray, Iowa.
She was married Dec. 25, 1907 to Roy Lucas of Thayer. One son, Earl was born to this union. They lived on a farm west of Thayer until Mr. Lucas passed away in January 1948. In 1949, she moved to Creston.
She was married to Roy Van Velsan in 1956. He preceded her in death in 1960.
She entered Johnson's Nursing Home in August of 1972, where she remained until her death.
She is survived by her son, Earl and his wife Georgia; three granddaughters; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, brothers, and sisters preceded her in death.
