Cumberland-Shirley Virginia Clites,77, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018, at the Western Maryland Health System Hospital with her family by her side.
Born in Pennsylvania on September 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Leona (Lowery) Piper. Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband, Jessie E. “Joke” Clites, Jr., who passed away in 1973; and her brother, Jimmy Piper.
Shirley was a daycare provider, and a member of the Cumberland Church of Christ. She enjoy creating ceramics, exploring flea markets, and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her five children, Natalie Day and husband Alan, Cumberland, Marvin J. Clites, Hagerstown, Robert D. Clites and wife Christine, Ridgeley, Tammy Morris and husband Greg, Ridgeley, and Tiffany DeVore and wife Heather Ware, Short Gap; grandchildren, Brittany Wallizer and husband Eli, Brook Often and husband Derick, Mariah Swanger and husband Jarred, Bethany Ware, and Cameron Ware; great-grandchildren, Macy, Alayah, Evan, Ryleigh, Bella, and Jax; brothers, Luther Piper and wife Betty, Hyndman, PA, and John Piper and wife Debbie, Hyndman, PA; and sister, Barbara Bray and husband Nick, Ellerslie, MD.
It was Shirley’s request to be cremated. She further requested that a memorial service not be held in honor. It was her desire for her friends and family to remember her for the wonderful life she led, and to remember her for being a loving person who loved her family.
Her family would like to thank all the staff at Lion’s Center and Cumberland Healthcare nursing homes, and Thomas Bostaph, NP (her crush) for their loving and tender care for their mother.
