Solomon Hicks died at sea and after his death Prudence moved the family inland to Randolph County.
"I believe that Solomon shipped tar to England. His property was next to the great tar furnace where the ancient dead pines and fresh living pines were burned and processed into Black Tar, Green Tar, Varnish and Rosen.
Solomon was last at sea in early 1790 -1791/92.
Uriah, their youngest son, was born after Solomon's death.
Prudence was still in Onslow County in 1800 census, but removed to Randolph County NC as 'her children would not follow the sea'. However we lost her at this point after moving to Randolph or before she probably remarried or was living near her brothers. (Thompson? husband sic)
Soloman and Prudence's children:
1. Mary 'Polly'Hicks married William Scarlett. His portrait is in a Massachusetts Museum.
2. West Hicks- once visited Uriah in Clay Co, Indiana.
3. William Hicks.
4. Uriah Hicks married Clarissa Presnell in Ashboro Randolph Co NC.

There are no WEST households in Randolph County, which suggests that the relatives Prudence went to live with were either not Wests or that they moved 1800-1810. There are 2 Hicks households in 1810 Randolph: Daves Hicks and William Hicks, so perhaps the relatives were from the Hicks side.
