Born June 24, 1938 in Afton, Wyoming Lincoln County Parents Willard Earl Nield and Lorna Hurd Nield Died Oct 24, 2019 in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the EIRMC
Layle grew up in Afton, Wyoming just a block west of mainstreet in a house his father built. He grew up with all of the most important elements of life that a boy could ask for, loving parents and family, lots of chores to do, lots of cousins and extended family, good friends, great teachers, a horse of his own and room to roam. He graduated from Star Valley High School in 1956. He played basketball for SVHS on a very successful team coached by All American Star Valley native Vern Gardner. He loved his coach and team mates very much. After graduating he attended Utah State University before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for two years in the Central States Mission. He returned home in October of 1960. In December of 1960 he met his wife, Edna “Teddy” West and they were engaged in April of 1961 and married on August 24, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a man who loved to work and he, with the help of great employees and family ran a successful grocery and meat processing business for forty years. Nield Market and Star Valley Blue Ribbon Beef, north of Afton. In 1973 he purchased property and built a home so he could pursue his love of cattle ranching and being outside working the land and taking care of his cattle. It was his true love, and his pride and joy. It also provided him with many more hours of work. Layle was an active member of the church his whole life, serving when and where he was called to the best of his ability. One of the highlights of his church service was the years he and his spouse served as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls, Idaho temple. He was also honored to serve for a time in the Star Valley Temple.
Layle is survived by his wife Teddy and his children, Blake (Judi), Markel, Bryan (Rachel), Mindi (Jonathan) Wilford, Marci (Eloy) Mendoza
Brothers Kent(Camilla) Nield, Galand (Maureen) Nield, Sister Anna Kay (Michael) Waddoups, and Seventeen Grandchildren
Funeral Service is November 2nd at 1 p.m. in the Salt River Ward Building South of the Temple on Hwy 89 in Afton.
