He was born in Charlotte on March 16, 1953 to Franklin Delano West and the late Julia West Ward.
Survivors include his wife Frankie Greene West; daughters, Stephanie Therrell and husband Justin of Charlotte and Taylor West of Huntersville; brothers, Barry and Del West.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Tuesday, June 5 at Huntersville ARP Church with the funeral following at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Northlake Memorial Gardens.

James Avery West, 80, formerly of 16 Valerie Drive, died Sunday, March 3, 2002.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Joe and Clara Thompson West. Mr. West was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, World War II veteran and a member of the Fleet Reserve for 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Ballew West of the home; two daughters, Karin Stromborn of Bayville, N.J. and Elizabeth Deitz of Lakehurst, N.J.; a step-daughter, Linda G. Morgan of Greenville; a sister. Margie Burrell of Greenville; two grandsons; and one great-grandaughter.
