John was the son of Thomas & Elizabeth West. He is listed in his father's Last Will & Testament of 1831 in Rutherford County.
He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Upton, on 29 Oct 1804 in Rutherford County. Performed by: Thomas Upton, Baptist Minister; Page 158, Rutherford County Marriages.
Eleven children would be born to this union:
Thomas, Daniel, Ruth, Sarah, John, Elizabeth, Mary, William, Amanda, Lurana and Phoebe.
John and Elizabeth would later remove to Macon County, NC ca. 1835 where they would make their home in Cowee Township.
Elizabeth's widowed mother, Ruth (Queen) Hamby Upton would come with them and remained in the home until her death.
John's 3-page, hand written Last Will & Testament, was signed and recorded on 10 Jan 1849. Witnessed by: J.K. Gray and Alfred Hall; Macon County Will Book 1.
The 1850-1880 US Federal Census Mortality Schedule indicates he died of Fever in Apr 1850. He was 70-years of age.
