Ebe Walter Helm. Jr , was born August 8, 1890: at No. 736 South Front Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of Ebe Walter and Mary Anna (Tunnell) Helm and member of an old family.
On the paternal side the Helm family dates back to early times, Israel Helms having come to America as a Swedish immigrant in 1659.
Jacob Helm, great-grandfather of Ebe Walter Helm, Jr., died May 24. 1846. His son. Peleg Walter Helm, born March 12, 1800, died in 1866, married Eleanor Anna Townsend, who died 21 August 1910, daughter of John and Hetty Townsend.
Their son Ebe Walter Helm, father of E W Helm Jnr, was born Jan 12 1858 in Clarksville, Sussex, Delaware, and was for years a retail merchant and a farmer in Clarksville, afterward carrying on his work in PA until his retirement in 1927. He married Mary Anna Tunnell, who was born March 8 1858, died August 31 1936 at her home in Clarksville, Sussex, DE, and was interred in St. George's Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville: daughter of Henry Maull and Rhoda E (Bennett) Tunnell. Her father was descended from James Miller Tunnell, and, tracing the line still farther back, from Nathaniel Tunnel, who according to family records, settled about 1664 in Accomac, VA.
Henry Maull Tunnell, the maternal grandfather of E W Helm Jnr, was born Nov 25 1831, and died Feb 3 1904.
