OCR text: Mrs. W. T. McCarty died Tuesday evening: at 6:35 o'clock at her home, 1004 Rural Street, after an illness of 11 months. Intestinal held trouble was the cause of her Street death. 2:30 Olivia Cecelia West was born in May, 1850, on a plantation near J.
Durant, Miss. Her father was sang Gen. A. M. West, at one time 'Shall president of the Mississippi CenIsle tral Railway and later a candidate for vice-president of the United Lodge States on the Greenback ticket the with General Ben Butler. F. Mrs. McW. remembered well the days, A. Carty while her father was fighting at the -front in the Confederate army, that General Grant spent at their home in Mississippi, where he made his headquarters during the Federal invasion. Mrs. McCarty given a iels. classical education in Southern lost institutions. October. 22. 1867, fire. she was married to William noon Thadeus McCarty, who had just was been graduated from the Univers They came the Lity of Mississippi. West, arriving on a stage in Emporia in July, 1869. The late Judge E. W.
Cunningham and and the late J. B. Hinkle of family land family came on the same stage. There was no railroad into Emporia at that time. Mrs. McCarty told many interesting experiences of the pioneer days, including the fighting of prairie fires and adventure with the Indians, who always treated them with friendliness. The McCartys have lived since coming to and Emporia at the same location on Rural Street. Mrs. McCarty is survived by her husband, Judge W. T. McCarty, and the following children: for Mason of Emporia; William of Denver; James Brooke, of was Los Angeles, Keith, of Emporia; Mrs. Carolyn McBride. of Rankin, Nashville, of Topeka; Mrs. Mrs. Evange- Fay line Brunswick, of La Rochelle, ing France; Alston of Denver, and Mrs. David. Kerr, of Emporia. A the son, Wirt Glover, died several years ago. Mrs. McCarty is survived also by the following grandchildren: Leona McCarty, Emporia; Ruth and Martha McBride, of Nashville, Eleanor Grace Rankin, of Topeka, and Gertrude Ann McCarty, of Denver; by a sister, Mrs. Carrie West Smith, of Holly Springs, and a brother, Benjamin West, of Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. McCarty was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, to which faith she adhered to the time of her death. to Funeral of Mrs. W. T. McCarty Funeral services for Mrs. W. T.
McCarty, who died Wednesday, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at. the home, 1004 Rural Street. Rev. W. P. Wharton, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted the services. The pallbearers were Dr. F. A. Eckdall, David Kerr, Harold Rankin, Alston McCarty, Keith McCarty and M. Mason McCarty. Interment was in made in Maplewood Cemetery.

MRS. W.T. McCARTY IS DEAD
Mrs. W.T. McCarty died last night at 6:35 o’clock at her home 1004 Rural Street, after an illness of 14 months. Intestinal trouble was the cause of her death.
Olivia Cecelia West was born in May 1850 on a plantation near Durant, Mississippi. Her father was General A.M. West, at one time president of the Mississippi Central Railway and later candidate for Vice President of the United States on the Greenback ticket with General Be Butler. A son, Wirt Glover McCarty died several years ago.
Mrs. McCarty is survived also by the following grandchildren: Leona McCarty of emporia; Ruth and Martha McBride of Nashville. Tennessee; Eleanor Grace Rankin of Topeka; and Gertrude Ann McCarty of Denver; by a sister Mrs. Carrie West Smith of Holly Springs, Mississippi and a brother Benjamin West of Memphis, Tennessee.
